Stephen Shores, Veterinarian / Owner

Dr. Stephen Shores graduated from Texas A & M University in 1964 with honors being in the top 10% of his class.  Dr. Shores is the owner of Shores Animal Hospital and has been practicing in Gainesville since 1974 being very proud of all that has been accomplished during that time.  Dr. Shores has served as Past-President of Alachua County Veterinary Medical Association and the Florida Veterinary Medical Association.  He is still very active in the American Veterinary Medical Association and also serves on the legislative committee.  He lives with his wife, Pat, and has five children, four grandsons, and 2 granddaughters, and three dogs named Reggie, Aggie, Scout.

dr_leclear.jpgDr. Calvin LeClear, DVM

Dr. LeClear is happy to be back at Shores Animal Hospital. He has lived in Gainesville since 1993 with his wife, two children, and at one point as many as three dogs, two cats, and four birds. He graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997.

As a child, Dr. LeClear was the kid who captured fire flies to have in bottles in his bedroom as night lights, or found a frog outside and tried to raise it to adulthood. He received a microscope in third grade for a gift, and performed a science demonstration for his third grade class on the diffusion of ink through hot and cold water. By sixth grade, he knew he wanted to be a veterinarian.

Dr. Cal graduated from Michigan State University in 1988 with a bachelors in Chemistry Teaching/minor Biology. He taught high school Chemistry and Physics, and other sciences, in South Florida for five years before being accepted into the UF College of Veterinary Medicine. He worked at Shores Animal Hospital for three years, then owned Tri-County Pet and Bird Hospital, where he added ten years of avian experience in addition to the dogs and cats, before returning to Shores and merging both animal hospitals. Dr. LeClear says he has so much fun as a veterinarian that he cannot imagine himself retiring before the age of 72 years old. His wife hopes he will not still want to work 6-7 days a week by then. That is still a point of negotiation.
